Welcome to Cross My Heart Ranch, boys!
We're excited to introduce our first batch of mustangs. Our goal is to rescue as many mustangs as possible by bringing them home from the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), gentling them, and finding them good homes. So, we've named them in alphabetical order to keep track of how many come through our program.
These boys arrived October 18, 2024, untouched from the BLM. We gave them names that we felt reflected their personalities.
Atlas
Enduring
There's something about Atlas. He was an immediate favorite of both humans and horses upon arrival. The other boys gravitate toward him when they're stressed, and he presses his head against them to offer comfort. Extroverted and quick to calm down, Atlas is a big boy and looks like he has some draft blood.
Barrett
Warrior
Barrett is a bit of a mystery. He appears calm and compliant, but it's harder to read what's going on beneath the surface. Unlike some of the others, he seems to keep things in rather than letting you immediately if he doesn't like something. In spite of that, we have high hopes for Barrett when it comes to his training, as he is a calm and fast learner.
Cayden
Spirit of battle
Cayden came with his face covered in scars from fighting with the other boys in holding, hence the name. Don't let that fool you though; Cayden is the friendliest toward humans of the group, immediately coming up to meet new people at the ranch and be petted on his face.
Deacon
Messenger
The smallest of the group, Deacon is also the hungriest, which makes him a little more bold with humans. As the only chestnut of the group, Deacon lives up to his color and is pretty fiery. However, once we got him in the round pen, we found him to be very intelligent and think he might have the highest potential of the group when it comes to training.
